Why Incorporate Online a California
Corporation?
Incorporating a California business online is a much easier process
than doing it the old fashioned way via mailed forms and sitting
in a waiting room at some state government office. By incorporating
your California business online you can successfully bypass the
waiting game that is usually associated with incorporation in California.
California is notorious as one of the slowest states for the typical
incorporation. It can up to 6 weeks to get fully incorporated,
but there are backlogs at times and it can take even longer. 6
weeks is not a guarantee, in fact there is not much the state of
California government can guarantee. You may fill out and send
in your articles and find out later that something was incorrect.
This may cost you weeks of valuable time. Fortunately California
is somewhat progressive in that they allow you to download the
forms online, but even then you must print, sign and mail everything.
Incorporating online is very easy. The first step is to find
an online service that offers incorporating services in California.
If you are in a foreign country or different state, but wish to
do business and incorporate in California, then you will need to
also obtain registered
agent service from the online service. This
is for an additional fee, usually charged annually as well. Cost
for online California incorporation will vary greatly from one
service provider to the next. Not all service providers are created
equal. Great customer support, expedited services, paperwork tracking
and a thorough review process for all applications are well worth
the extra cost. There are also resources online that review potential
services, so make sure to do your homework.
Do you want to file for sub-chapter
S corporation status? Do you want to officially trademark and register a corporate
name? Are you in a rush?
The answers to these questions may very well determine which
services can provide you with the products you need. Sub-chapter
S Corporation filing requires an additional form and some online
services offer
this for an additional charge, while others do not. You can search
for a corporate name before incorporation, but can only officially
trademark is after it is complete. Many online services will allow
you to piggyback your California incorporation with an immediate
trademark registration. California's timeline for filing
is not always feasible for some businesses eager to get started,
so many online services have channels and the means to expedite
filing and get you incorporated in about a week. This will cost
you a little bit more to do, but can be very beneficial when on
a tight schedule.
On top of incorporation many online services offer the filing
of the form to obtain a Federal
Tax Identification Number for the
company (also called an "EIN" or "Employer ID Number"). In most
cases you can receive this number electronically in a matter of
days and immediately open a business banking account.
